What would be lost
Proposals for a third runway and 6th terminal at Heathrow would cause destruction on a scale that would be shocking in any part of world. When it is proposed simply for profit, in a country which values it's heritage and sense of community, it shames Britain.
Well-respected local historian Philip Sherwood has spent decades recording the past and present of the Heathrow area. His publications are a reminder of what has already been lost to developers. In "Around Hayes and West Drayton - Transport and Industry" (Sutton publishing) the former Chemist and Scientific Officer also points to a grim future if Heathrow continues to expand, increasing pollution levels.
The following pages showing the history of Sipson village, are from Philip Sherwood's forthcoming book. He has kindly offered this chapter for the NoTRAG website to illustrate why residents are fighting and what they are determined to save.
